Yule Has Twelve Legs

Yule does not end when the Sun rises on December 26th.  But most of us feel a drop in energy. It's like the equivalent of running out of gas.  Enthusiasm drops off.  There is. I believe, a reason for this.  It's called Christmas is over.

The Christmas hustle starts after Labor Day (first Monday in September).  It is subtle; more sales ads in print and visual media pop up.  The key word is more.  Before Halloween is over, Christmas deco stuff is on the shelves for sale.  One Christian based hobby store begins its discount blather.  Christmas music hits the airwaves on November the 1st.  People ditch Thanksgiving to stand in line for Black Friday.  The Big Day comes and quickly passes.  Then people stand in line on December 26th to return stuff given to them that they do not want (if the Christians who claim that there is a war on Christmas, I suggest this is where they need to look.  Not much emphasis on their Jesus - just spending money to buy stuff).  It's like somebody left the air out of a balloon.

In the West, we live in a Christo-centric world.  And, this September to December cycle is a deeply ingrained part of it - there is no escape.  But as the title states, Yule has twelve legs, or rather, twelve days.

The time between 12/26 and Twelve Night, 12/31 should not be ignored.  Burn your Yule Logs, salute your Ancestors, Matronae, and Gods.  Refine your goals for the New Year.  And continue to gather in Frith with your friends.  Yes, take time to relax, but think about your situation.  Compared to you, there is somebody in worse condition.  If you want better, plan now.  The twelve legs of Yule belong to you.  Take advantage of all twelve.

Fighting Giants

Believing that we can control nature, getting nature to bend to our will is foolhardy.  We are a part of the very thing we seek to control....
