More of Nick Hammer - The Horseman

Nick fought to stay conscious.  After three surgeries in as many days the pain killers were overwhelming.  During his unconscious state nightmares forced him to relive the shooting.
The gunfire and smell of blood filled his head.  Before he fit the floor, he saw Magda go down.  Blood flowed out of his partner, the thickness of it meeting the thickness of his own.  Before he lost total consciousness, he saw the Shooter place a small figurine on Magda’s desk.  He remembered the Shooter.
He was a damned good dresser, very dapper with matching tie and pocket rocket.  Light brown but not blonde hair with grey eyes.  Nick especially remembered the eyes. They were cold and almost lifeless, but held the look of death.  The Shooter paused to put a bullet into Magda’s head.  Her head jerked up and then bounced on the floor.  The kill shot – but not Nick - why not me?  Hammer woke to find Shannon standing by his bed and holding on tightly to his hand.

Thoughts on Family and Other Stuff

Family is something that not just a few words can describe.  It is much more.  It is the building block of clan, tribe, and the greater social structure, nation.  A career, just another word for job, should not come before family.  But oftentimes, it does.  Possessions, and the accumulation thereof, should not come before family.  But oftentimes, it does.  Filling up the house with stuff to impress the neighborhood should never be that important.  Everything just said about family is just as true and important for spouse.  A smart phone cannot hold you in the dead of night and make you feel special or secure.

Our children learn from other sources than just books.  They learn from observing us.  Our moods and attitudes, words and deeds, are visible to them.  Like sponges, they suck it all up.  It is the ebb and flow, the orlog and wyrd of life.  It is not just our DNA that we pass on to them.  It is our values -  what we think is important in this life.  If we put career and stuff ahead of family and spouse they will learn that from us.  And they may do the same as adults.  The day of employer - employee loyalty are long gone.  This is truth.  Family is forever.  A spouse should last as long.  Possessions quickly become obsolete.  Do not let your family and spouse do the same.

Havamal verse 40 - Don't save so much money that you don't use any of it.  You'll die, after all, and it might not go to the people you like.  The world ain't aimin' to please you.*

Havamal verse 72 - It's good to have a son, or someone you can call that; there ain't too  many men remembered 'cept those as left family behind*

Havamal verse 78 - I saw a rich man's sons, they had a good many o' head of cattle.  Now they're beggars in the street.  Wealth's nothin' to count on; it'll leave you as soon as it finds you.*

Latest Nick Hammer Published

My latest book, Nick Hammer - The Horseman is now available on Amazon in softcover and Kindle versions.  Here is a snippet ....

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies were joined by Houston P.D. but it was Harris County’s show.  The Harris County detective assigned to the case was Dan Bellows.  When League City detectives Jimmy Boyd and Slick Eddie Powers heard the news, they jumped into an unmarked radio car and headed to the scene.  The three detectives knew one another.  They met just inside the tape line.
“I don’t think I have to tell you two you’re out of your jurisdiction,” Bellows annoyed, said.
“Hey man,” Slick Eddie said, “Hammer and Mags are our friends.  We’re not here to stomp on your turf.”
“Yeah … what Slick just said, Dan,” Jimmy Boyd managed to say.  “Relax brother … this is a real hard nut to swallow.”
“Well, yeah, no shit … apologies.  Didn’t mean to get up in your face … this is gonna be a real ball buster,” Bellows whispered.
“You got anything so far?” Slick asked.
“Not a whole hellava lot.  This Shooter’s real good … it had to be a professional hit … he picked up his brass … how many guys do that … until I get a report from the hospital, I’ve got no idea how many shots were fired … from the blood on the floor it had to be a lot.  There’s no bullets in the walls or furniture …

This Year with Terry Unger

This weekend I received an e-mail.  The sender asked me what I was up to.  Are you done writing?  Since I have not published the sender asked me if I'm done.  Writing back, I said absolutely not.  Here is the plan for this year.

Currently, I am working on the fourth Hammer novella.  It should be available by the end of March 2018.  It will be titled ... Nick Hammer - The Horseman.  Two more Hammer novellas are planned for this year.

I have removed all three of the View books.  Later this year these books will be edited, re-titled, reformatted, and include more material.

There is a distinct possibility that I will publish something "Yule" centric right before the season begins.

Thanks for your concern and your support !!! Prost Y'all !!!
